This can also create problems for building a relationship if you meet a local person who has their life in place and you have to change countries or return to your home country \u2014 or even if you meet another expat living on the other side of the world from you.<\/li><li><strong>The expat community which focuses more on professional expansion and tends to look for<\/strong> fun rather than commitment to a relationship. And depending on when you start your expat life, you may feel this disconnect.<\/li><li><strong>Certain expat countries can make meeting people more difficult<\/strong>. As Amel Talk says in her video <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/hXkxv2DtoGk?si=1Hsf_DLL_3uiqHlk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dating in Dubai<\/a>, dating apps in Dubai have been accessible only via VPN for the past year. In Singapore, if you are a female expat, you may feel invisible as male expats tend to look for more exotic profiles, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.femmexpat.com\/destination-2\/asie-pacifique\/singapour\/les-amours-a-singapour-2-la-french-lover-brand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Femme Expat<\/a> mentions in her article.<\/li><\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-577618f2 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"577618f2\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-4d241208\" data-id=\"4d241208\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dc80399 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"dc80399\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_big_advantage_of_expat_life\"><\/span>The big advantage of expat life<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-442fc70 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"442fc70\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color: #eeeeee;\">\u2764\ufe0f Watch <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sandykaufmann.ch\/en\/registrationpastwounds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">my webinar<\/a><\/strong> on how to finally be happy in love!<\/p>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not everything is bleak about expat life and being single. For a start, people who expatriate are looking for professional and personal growth, and this can be a great opportunity if you are looking for people with these values. <strong>Expat life forces you out of your comfort zone and to meet new people,<\/strong> which in turn contributes to potentially meeting your future partner. Something you would certainly not do if you stayed in your hometown with your childhood friends.<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5cce905 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5cce905\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_expat_life_for_me_A_question_of_priorities\"><\/span>Is expat life for me? A question of priorities<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0e9ff11 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0e9ff11\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meeting someone also requires time, having enough energy to create opportunities for meeting people \u2014 and in expat life, this can be a real challenge.<\/span>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>To evaluate whether your expat life is a barrier to meeting people<\/strong>, you can ask yourself the following questions:<\/span>\n<ul><li>Am I able to meet enough new people?<\/li><li>Am I meeting enough people who are looking for a stable relationship?<\/li><li>Does my work leave me with enough time, energy and stability to encourage meeting people? In <a href=\"https:\/\/sandykaufmann.ch\/fr\/75-les-4-freins-indirects-a-l-amour\/\">episode 75<\/a> I talk about the four barriers to meeting people and in particular the impact of a demanding job.<\/li><\/ul>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are of course all the general difficulties and preconceptions about apps and meeting people that apply to everyone, which can also influence your experience of meeting people. If you want to distinguish what is blocking you in meeting people that does not stem from expat life, I invite you to listen to <a href=\"https:\/\/sandykaufmann.ch\/fr\/109-rencontrer-quelquun-pourquoi-c-est-si-difficile\/\">episode 109<\/a>.<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6351861 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6351861\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_wounds_linked_to_expat_life\"><\/span>The wounds linked to expat life<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-79baeba elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"79baeba\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no coincidence in choosing to expatriate. Having lived as an expat myself and having accompanied quite a few expats, there are two types of patterns that come up a lot in expats:<\/span>\n<ul><li><strong>Patterns related to one&#8217;s place in relationships<\/strong> (&#8220;I have no place in my family, I have to prove my place, I am unwanted&#8221;&#8230; and all the variations). This path can unconsciously lead you to distance yourself from your loved ones and your family because you feel less attached, less like you belong to the tribe, or you feel the need to prove your worth to them by succeeding through expat life.<\/li><li><strong>The abuse pattern.<\/strong> (I talk about it more in <a href=\"https:\/\/sandykaufmann.ch\/fr\/164-le-schema-dabus\/\">episode 164<\/a>.) If you have experienced a great deal of disrespect of your limits and needs in your childhood, you may feel the need to take a &#8220;safety distance&#8221; from your loved ones, and geographical distance is the safest way to achieve this without having to justify yourself. It will also explain why you will be attracted to demanding roles with long hours, lots of stress and responsibility that lead to burnout (I talk about burnout in <a href=\"https:\/\/sandykaufmann.ch\/fr\/79-catherine-vasey-burnout-et-charge-mentale\/\">episode 79<\/a>). To these patterns are added of course the other love patterns specific to your personal history: your childhood, your previous relationships&#8230; To go further, watch my webinar &#8220;how to free
